We are pleased to announce the following opportunities for study and scholarships at the East-West Center (EWC) for the 2019 academic year. For fifty-eight years, East-West Center student participants have developed lifelong relationships and a powerful sense of community with others who share an interest in and commitment to the Asia Pacific region. Graduate students from 40+ countries, Hawai‘i and across the United States live in residence at the East-West Center while studying at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR DEGREE STUDY
|
|
|
Overview: Funding for graduate students with a commitment to the Asia Pacific region to pursue a graduate degree at the University of Hawai‘i and participate in residential, educational and leadership development programs at the East-West Center.
Type of study: Master's or Doctoral degree study (up to 24-month fellowship)
Eligibility: Citizens or permanent residents of the United States and citizens of countries in the Pacific and Asia, including Russia.
Application deadline: December 1

Japan Scholarship Program
EastWestCenter.org/ADB
Overview: Funding for graduate study in ADB-approved fields of study at the University of Hawai‘i and participation in residential, educational and leadership development programs at the East-West Center.
Type of study: Graduate degree study (up to 24-month scholarship)
Eligibility: Citizens of ADB's developing member countries.
Application deadline: December 1

Overview: USSP provides educational opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students from South Pacific Island nations in fields of study meeting regional development needs. Funded by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State.
Type of study: Bachelor's degree study at the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo; or Master's degree study at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa.
Eligibility: Citizens from the Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Niue, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu.
Application deadline: February 1

Overview: Funding for graduate students with a commitment to the Asia Pacific region to pursue a graduate degree at the University of Hawai‘i and participate in residential, educational and leadership development programs at the East-West Center.
Type of study: Master's or Doctoral degree study (up to 24-month fellowship); or Asia Pacific Leadership Program (4.5-month fellowship)
Eligibility: Residents of Okinawa, Japan
Application deadline: December 1

Through the EWC's Community Building Institute, new students gain a greater understanding and awareness of “shared communities” as these relate to academic study, daily living and the challenges facing the Asia Pacific region.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR EWC AFFILIATION
|
|
|
Overview: An opportunity for graduate students to participate in the residential, educational, leadership development and cultural programs at the East-West Center while pursuing a graduate degree at the University of Hawai‘i.
Type of study: Participation in Center educational and residential programs focused on creating an Asia Pacific community through dialogue, educational and cultural activities, and public outreach.
Eligibility: Full-time graduate student status at the University of Hawai‘i, or participation in a UH graduate-level exchange program; Open to all students from all countries.
Application deadlines: November 1 for spring semester start; May 1 for fall semester start.

Type of study: An opportunity for graduate students from universities around the world to have a short-term affiliation with the Center while working on research for a thesis or dissertation related to the Asia Pacific region.
Type of study: Intensive research for Master's or Doctoral students for a few months up to one year; participation in the Center's residential and educational programs.
Eligibility: Graduate students from universities worldwide.
Application deadline: Received year-round and arranged individually.

A celebration of diverse cultures with the greater Honolulu community, East-West Fest is an annual event organized by EWC students. The 2018 Fest featured over 600 guests, 30 cultural booths and 25 musical and dance performances.
